Gorgeous Garden

Taking inspiration from the gardens at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, on the Côte d'Azur, South of France, this is the beautiful garden that sits behind Maison B, Exquisite Home.

The garden is designed around a central axis that extends from the conservatory behind the house through to the bottom border, lined with square cut box hedging. Mid point is a large rectangular pond with six fine water jets. This is the spectacular focal point of this amazing garden’s design.

The Client wanted to extend their enjoyment (considering the investment made) of this beautiful garden to after dark and asked us to implement a lighting design that was subtle, not over-illuminating and would add both drama and intrigue. With this in mind our approach was to leave large areas of the garden dark and shaded and concentrate light on specific components. The key element is the water feature and we liked the idea of illuminating the water jets from within the pond, each stream of water becoming a conduit to carry light skyward in a narrow arc from one side of the pool to the other. The various lighting zones and the operation of the water jets is controlled via a single keypad in the conservatory configured to Lutron’s GRAFIK Eye QS using DALI protocol. This garden lighting design was featured in Total Lighting magazine.
